I found two positives in this whole difficult situation
The first is, that people need to be sensitized about the fact, that people that plan to commit suicide can get help. I can say with whole certainty, that we should at least attempt it. The second thing is, the residents are becoming active regarding things connected to the community and management of Złota 44 – things that Oleg actively took care of.
We shouldn’t ignore signs that people close to us show
Oleg’s death caused my constant search for an answer to everything that happened. Unfortunately, I still need to search for it by myself, because the employees of Magnus Facility Management, the company, that manages the reception and the concierge service, don’t respond to my questions and don’t answer my writings. The only positive aspect of their ignorance is my growing knowledge of suicides and the people committing them. There are clear signs in the behavior of people planning a suicide, signs that reveal their intent. A wonderful source of information on this topic is Hania Es, which I found out about after my tragedy. She clearly shows how to recognize and notice the signs that people planning a suicide show – she shows them on her own example. The things Hania talks about only show how blind we can be in our day to day life and that we fail to listen to people, that are around us, and, that we don’t treat things we see seriously. You should watch her videos, it’s worth it.
A tragedy that inspires to something more
Maybe there should be a foundation, an organization, a place, where people will be educated, and employees trained? So that they can do the right thing in difficult situations, so that they would know, that someone showing definite signs, needs help.
I want this tragedy to have a positive influence on society. I want it to be an example, which shows how one should behave in similar situations. I want it to sensitize everyone to the needs of people, that are in our daily life. The social attitudes need to be changed, people need to be more empathetic and helpful to people in need of moral and emotional support. People need to be educated, because the number of suicides could be decreased, if we can manage to change their attitude.
The correct diagnosis of someone‘s emotional condition, correctly recognizing his or her plans, listening to what he or she says when he or she „calls for help” is the foundation to see the issues of a future suicide victim. When we see those aspects, then we will be just one easy step away from helping them, from preventing another tragedy.
We should stop just hearing and start listening. We should stop just watching and start seeing.
We should not remain deaf when someone is silently calling for help. We should learn to read between the lines, we should learn to see the sings, that people thinking about a suicide show us, and especially what their eyes express.
We should not remain indifferent, because someone in our closest circle might be fighting a battle, a fight between his or her lust for life and a lack of strength to keep on living. We should learn about the fact, that silence could be a sign of the loudest call for help.
We should not see such people as madmen, because they might have reached a limit of their own endurance and now they are trying blindly to find a way back. We should not leave them to remain alone in their fight. We should not be indifferent, even when we don’t take someone’s behavior seriously.
