Not helping is a crime
People can scream without being loud and using their voice. The will to help others should be within us always, the single thing that can restrict us in this regard is the opportunity to do so. It’s not important if the person in need is sick, wealthy or poor. Everyone deserves help.
One cannot be indifferent when someone else is calling for help, even when the one needing help, isn’t showing it explicitly. Knowing about the condition of a person, who is ill is reason enough to take the appropriate actions.
Art. 162 of the Penal Code
§1. One who doesn’t provide help to another human, who is in a directly life-threatening danger or grave detriment to health, and who is in the position to provide such help without exposing oneself or another to a life-threatening danger or grave detriment to health, shall be subject to the penalty of the deprivation of liberty for a maximum term of 3 years.
§2. No crime is committed if the subject does not provide help, which requires undergoing a medical procedure, or is in a situation, in which immediate help provided by an institution or a person, that has been appointed for such a task, is possible.

The polish law directly states the need to provide help to someone in need, someone who’s life and health are in danger. According to the Penal Code, the failure to provide help to someone, who is in danger of losing his or her life or is in danger of a grave health detriment, is a crime. Not providing help is a formal crime, thus it is committed when the perpetrator – while knowing, that another person is in danger – refrains from any action, that prevent such harm. However, it’s not enough for the person who provides help to do just anything.
Oleg’s tragedy is a perfect example of the fact, that just doing something is not enough. It’s not enough to knock on the door and hear a sick man say: „everything is ok“. Don’t be persuaded by assertions from distorted people, such as when they say they are fine, because everyone wanting to commit suicide will try to hide his or her intentions and try to reach his or her goal.
Listen carefully to people and observe their actions. Never downplay jokes about suicide, because this vigilance, even if excessive, can rescue lives.
